Bernard R. “Bum” Terwilliger, 75, of Bradgate, passed away Tuesday morning, February 28, 2023 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1947 in Humboldt, the son of Paul C. and Marie J. (Anderson) Terwilliger. He was raised and educated in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea. He was united in marriage to Betsy Williams in May of 1969. The couple lived in Humboldt and later Bradgate and Bum worked for Humboldt Concrete Products. They later divorced and he married Patricia Bunkofske in 1979. They made their home in Algona and he was employed with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. After the marriage ended Bum returned to Bradgate and Concrete Products. He later worked for Chantland’s south plant retiring in 2009. Bum enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, anything outdoors, playing golf, the Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, following harness racing and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by his children Angie (Mark) George of Wheatland, Missouri and Andy (Amanda) Terwilliger of Dakota City, his step-children Holly Miller of Salix, Iowa, Chris Benjamin of West Bend and Danielle (Luke) Bonnstetter of Charles City, his grandchildren Mitchell Biba, Riley Mason, Levi George, Avery Terwilliger, Owen Terwilliger and Hunter Dery, his sisters Joyce (Joe) Wagner of Wesley, Julie (George) Mack of Algona and Duane (Sharon) Terwilliger of Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leon, Galen, Dennis, Virgil, James and Richard, his sisters Marilyn, Margaret, Mildred and Norma and his step-son Doug Bunkofske.
Funeral services with military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW & American Legion will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4th and visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3rd both at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Burial at a later date will be in Indian Mound Cemetery.
