Arlys J. Hendrickson, 85, of Humboldt, passed away March 10, 2015 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2015 at Oak Hill Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Doug Wolter officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Arlys Jean Borg, the daughter of Martin J. and Emma Amelia (Isaacson) Borg, was born March 19, 1929 at Forest City, Iowa. She was raised and educated at Forest City and graduated from Forest City High School. Following her education, Arlys was employed in a canning factory in Forest City. On October 4, 1949, she was united in marriage to Nelson H. Hendrickson at the First Baptist Church in Forest City. The couple made their home at Elgin, Iowa until moving to Humboldt in 1950 where Mr. Nelson worked for the REC. In Humboldt, Arlys worked as a homemaker raising her eight children, provided babysitting for other families, and worked seasonally for DeKalb Seed Corn.
Arlys was a life long member of the Baptist Church and instilled the importance of church in her children. She loved having coffee and visiting with her friends. She especially enjoyed doing the tasks that went along with raising her children including, cooking and canning, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and knitting, She enjoyed shopping, kept a vegetable garden and took pride in her flower beds. Never a driver, Arlys loved to ride her bicycle. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed collecting baseball cards.
Mrs. Hendrickson is survived by her sons; Michael (Bethanne Mosher) of Greenwich, NY, Paul (Linda) of Berkeley, IL, David (Nancy) of Needham, MA, Danny (Lisa) of Mt Laurel, NJ and Peter (Cindy) of Bondurant, IA, daughters; Catherine (Ray) Stockdale of Humboldt, Carol (Brett) Rossow of Belton, MO, and Melissa (Joe) Collins of Livermore, IA, 17 grandchildren, Thomas, Rachel, Meghan, Matthew, Joshua, Sara, Anne, Peter, Erik, Marc, Alex, Abbey, Timothy, Jeremy, Ian, Amber, Nathan, 11 great-grandchildren, Gunner, Elliot, Grayson, Henry, Lydia, Claire, Amelia, Savannah, Craig, Reese, and Jada; and sisters-in-law, Clara Wagner of Artesia, NM and Marie (Bill) Nelsen of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson in September of 2012; her parents; son, Thomas D. Hendrickson; brothers, Lennea, Albert, Kenyon, and Orville; and sisters, Ruth, Mildred, Gloria, and Verlyne.
