Arthur R. Weiss, 92, of Humboldt, passed away January 31, 2018 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Weiss is survived by his wife, Margaret Weiss of Humboldt; three children, Cindy (Weiss) and Don Strauch of Tucson, AZ, Annie Abbate of Glendale, AZ, and Gaye Weiss and Bob Over of Sagle, Idaho; four grandchildren, Bethany (Strauch) and Alex Wright of Madison, WI, Brittany McFadden of Phoenix, AZ, Keila (Strauch) and Jon Yonker of Kirkland, WA, and Allison (McFadden) and Charles Van Liew of Glendale, AZ; and five great grandchildren, Parker Wright, Finn Yonker, Justus Van Liew, Mariah Wright, and Ryker Van Liew.
Arthur Robert Weiss, the 10th of 11 children of Otto Fredrick and Louise Ida (Lehmann) Weiss, was born April 18, 1925 at home in Beaver Township, Humboldt County, Iowa. He attended Beaver Township Country School and was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Beaver Township. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and following his honorable discharge, returned home to farm. He was united in marriage to Margaret Elaine Pitstick on August 24, 1947 and the couple farmed together for many years in Beaver Township, Sittler’s Place north of Rutland, Weaver Township near Gilmore City, and Corinth Township near Humboldt until their retirement.
Art was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt where he served on the Administrative Board, Trustee Committee, ushered, and taught Sunday School. As a young farmer, Art received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award for Humboldt County and held the family trophy for Champion Carom Player. He served on the Humboldt Co-op Elevator Board, the Home Loan Board, and was a Farm Bureau member. He was a loving, respected, and involved Dad in the lives of his three daughters and loved his four Grand Daughters and five Great Grandchildren very much.
