Avis L. Rasmussen, 72, of Renwick, passed away July 20, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Renwick with the Rev. Christina Perkins officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Rasmussen is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jerry Rasmussen of Renwick; sons, Steve (Nancy) Rasmussen of Vancouver, WA, and Kevin (Lisa) Rasmussen of Goldfield; grandchildren, Aaron, James, Peter, Joel (Nikki), and Adam (Kayla) Rasmussen; and her brother, Darrel (Karen) Barber of Onawa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Gladys (Kuhn) Barber.
Avis Lorraine Barber, the daughter of Glenn and Gladys (Kuhn) Barber, was born January 10, 1939 near Rodman, Iowa. She was raised and educated at Rodman and graduated in a class of 6 other girls in 1956. She attended business school in Mankato, Minnesota and following her education was employed in the offices of Hormel in Fort Dodge.
On November 16, 1958 Avis was united in marriage to Jerry Rasmussen and the couple farmed together all of their married lives. She enjoyed her role as farm wife, active partner, and bookkeeper for Rasmussen Farms. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Renwick where she was active in UMW. She enjoyed her participation in Bridge Clubs, was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, and for the last 20 years enjoyed her winters spent with Jerry in Southern Texas.
