Bert M. Anderson, 86, of Spencer, formerly of Humboldt, passed away on Thursday morning, February 23, 2023 at the St. Luke Home in Spencer with her family by her side.
She was born May 26, 1936, in Fairfax, Missouri, the daughter of Jefferson and Stella (Edger) Plumb. She grew up on a farm as a child working hard doing chores and milking cows. She graduated from Fairfax High School and then moved to Kansas City. She met Charlie Anderson in Fort Dodge and the two were married on July 3, 1955. The couple made their home in a number of Iowa communities including; Fort Dodge, Storm Lake, Cherokee, Mason City, Des Moines, Webster City and in 1966 they moved to Humboldt. Bert worked as a teaching assistant for the Humboldt Community School District and later became the offset press operator for the school system, a position she held for over 20 years. Bert retired in 1993 and she and Charlie traveled the United States and Canada. They loved spending time together. Bert enjoyed walking the trails, that was her time to reflect and pray usually logging in twenty-five miles a week. She loved children and enjoyed her position with the schools. She adored her own children and grandchildren and could not wait to snack on cookies they would bake and eat together. Bert liked people and was a hugger. She enjoyed yard work and gardening and will be remembered for her pristine yard. She was a member of Oak Hill Church in Humboldt where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a counselor for many years during the summer and she loved working in the nursey. She was active in church because she loved to serve the Lord.
She is survived by her husband Charlie of Spencer, her children Lu Ann (Jeff) Essing of Everly, Iowa and Stephen (Karen) Anderson of Cedar Falls, her grandchildren Benjamin (Michelle) Essing, Sara (Andrew) Ogle, Kim (Matt) Connor, Krista (Tim) Huffman and Erica (Mitch) Zeman, 15 great-grandchildren and her brother Ed Plumb of Lancaster, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ruby Dalton and her brother Carl Plumb.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 1st and visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time all at Oak Hill Church in Humboldt. Jeans and casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Memorials will be to the discretion of the family. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements.
