Bessie Heiter, 94 of Humboldt, passed away October 9, 2013 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle Officiating. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery, Rolfe.
Mrs. Heiter is survived by her son, Carl Heiter of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger and Elaine Heiter and Joan Heiter all of Humboldt, Mona Heiter of OK, and Norman Peterson of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Virgil Heiter; son, Lawrence Heiter; granddaughters, Shelly and Terry Heiter; and13 brothers and sisters.
Bessie Peterson, the daughter of Chris and Mary (Roberts) Peterson, was born October 11, 1918 at Rolfe, Iowa where she was raised and educated. She was united in marriage to Melvin Virgil Heiter on October 12, 1937. The couple made their home at Pioneer, Iowa where they owned and operated a grocery store until their retirement. They moved to an acreage near Claire until making their home at Humboldt. Mr. Heiter passed away in August of 2007 and Bessie continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in February of last year.
Mrs. Heiter was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and especially letter writing to friends and relatives.
