Betty (Habben) O'Donnell

Betty (Habben) O’Donnell, 91, of Humboldt, passed away Easter Morning at the Humboldt Care Center South. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday. April 21, 2017 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Burial will be in Our Saviour’s Cemetery, Corinth Township, Humboldt County. Visitation is from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Betty J. Swanlund, the daughter of Ted and Grace (Anderson) Swanlund, was born January 24, 1926 at Dayton, Iowa. She was raised and educated at Dayton and following her graduation from Dayton High School, she attended Tobin Business College. On September 24, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Wilbert Habben at the Harcourt United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Pioneer where they raised their family. Betty worked as a bookkeeper for Schwendeman Chiropractic in Fort Dodge, Pioneer and Gilmore City COOP’s, Woodruff-Evans Construction, and Garrison Ford until her retirement in 1988. In March of 1983, the couple moved to Humboldt. Mr. Habben passed away in October of 1988 and Betty continued to maintain her home. On November 18, 1994, she married Keith O’Donnell at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Mr. O’Donnell passed away in January of 2002.
Betty became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South in December of 2007. She passed away peacefully there on Easter morning. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt and had been a past member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Palmer, where she served as church organist, and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. She was also a member of The V.F.W. Auxiliary. She is survived by her son, Kenny (Judy) Habben of Humboldt; grandchildren, Tracy (Al Murphy) Witte of Clare, Ricky Habben of Humboldt, Chad (Beth) Habben of Palmer, Jeffry Habben of Livermore, Ryan (Teresa) Grebner of Lonsdale, MN, and Ben (Ann) Grebner of St. Paul, MN; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by Theresa Collier of Humboldt; and stepchildren, Bob (Pam) O’Donnell of Humboldt, Ronny O’Donnell of Humboldt, and Shelly Davis of Humboldt. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Candy Habben in 1989; husband, Wilbert Habben; husband, Keith O’Donnell; and sisters, Elsie Forslund and Ione Rogers.
