Beverly J. Halsrud, 90, of Humboldt, passed away August 28, 2016 at her home in Humboldt. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode with Pastor James Borlaug officiating. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 1st at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Beverly Jean Halsrud, the daughter of Hiram and Clarice (Stoddard) Hewitt, was born on August 29, 1925 in Livermore, Iowa. She was raised in Livermore and was the youngest girl in her family of 17. She was married at the age of 15 to Maurice Stanley Halsrud on April 7, 1941 in Algona. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. They lived on a farm north of Bradgate until buying their acreage east of Livermore in 1972. They moved to Humboldt Homes in 2000 where she lived at the time of her death.
Beverly served as a Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, sold Avon, worked at the Star Restaurant in Humboldt as a cook and later worked as a cook at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital for 13 years. She was the one who first made “Revel bars” which are still served today. She loved to cook and was famous for her homemade buns, cinnamon rolls, and Norwegian cookies. She loved to crochet, do plastic canvas, make quillows, square dancing, card playing, camping, and loved giving her potholders and handiwork to everyone who came to visit. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Beverly is survived by her son, Dennis of Dalton, GA; her daughter, Pam Hosford of Humboldt; grandchildren, Douglas, Melanie, Deanna, Jessica, Nathan, and Laura; great grandchildren, Danielle, Maci, Parker, Julia, Daniel, and Jayden; and sisters-in-law, Elma Halsrud of Humboldt and Beverly Hewitt of LuVerne. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice in 2004; her son, Bruce Alan Halsrud in 1977; and siblings, Gladys, Lucile, Russell, Cecil, Everett, Dorothy, Evelyn, Thelma, Fern, Violet, Marjorie, Nadine, Donna, Gerald, Richard, and Daryl.
