Beverly M. Rogness, 83, of Thor, died June 27, 2009 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Thor Lutheran Church. Burial will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Beverly Mae Reuvers, the daughter of John “Jack” and Anne (Rosquist) Reuvers, was born October 1, 1925 at Alton, Iowa. She moved to Eagle Grove at a young age where she attended school and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1943. She started working in the office of Wilson & Co. Hatchery in Eagle Grove after high school where she met farmer Marvin Rogness of Thor whose family brought eggs in to be sold. They were united in marriage on November 23, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. They made their home on a farm southwest of Thor.
Bev worked clerking auctions with her husband for over 40 years with their business Rogness Auction Service. She enjoyed meeting and talking to people at auctions. She loved hearing a good story and telling a new one she had heard. She enjoyed being a farm wife and mother.
She was an avid reader and loved collecting books and sharing books with others to read. She also enjoyed getting together with friends to have coffee and visit over the years. Following her death in 1993, Bev continued to make her home in the Thor area until becoming a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in 2002.
Bev was a member of the Thor Lutheran Church and was a 64-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. As a child while her father worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Eagle Grove, she enjoyed riding the train to visit relatives during the summers.
Bev is survived by her daughter Pat Hill of Humboldt and her son Neal Rogness of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews and as she called them, her “granddogs, Mickey, Lucky, and Tiny”. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; son, Paul; her parents; brother, Roger Reuvers; and sisters, Arlene Morgan and Janice Frana.
