Brenda Sorensen

January 8, 1951 — July 26, 2016

Brenda Sorensen, 65, of Dakota City, passed away July 26, 2016 at the Paula Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Livermore. Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 5th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Bart Sorensen of Dakota City; children, Melanie (Rob) Hughes, Michelle Edge, Derek (Jessica) Prior, and Allison Sorensen all of Humboldt; grandchildren, Nathan and Emily Hughes, Jayson (Kelli) Edge, Ashley Edge, Bella, Brooks, and Beau Prior, and Mia Sorensen; brothers, Ron (Teresa) Smith of Williams, and Mel (Jenean) Smith of Dakota City; and sister, Shawn (Terry) Hansen of Nisswa, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Rose Smith; her sister, Cindy Besaw; and infant brother, Eugene Smith.



Brenda Smith, the daughter of Gerald and Rose Smith, was born January 8, 1951 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Her parents brought her home to Dakota City where she was raised and attended Mease Elementary School. During her high school years, Brenda worked as a typist for the Humboldt Independent Newspaper and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1969.

She married Doug Prior and the couple made their home in the Humboldt area until the marriage was dissolved. On July 15, 1995, she married her best friend, Bart Sorensen and the couple made their home in Dakota City.

Brenda worked as an insurance agent in the State Farm Insurance Office in Humboldt for 20 years. She then joined Worthington Insurance as an agent for 13 years. Brenda has spent the last three years of her career with Town and Country Insurance in Humboldt.

Brenda was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping trips with the family and attending dances with Bart. She took pleasure in helping her mother-in-law and father-in-law and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Above all, Brenda loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. She will be dearly missed by the many who loved her.
