Caryl Gene Vinsand of Dakota City, passed away February 12, 2011 at the Humboldt Care Center South.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating.  Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery.  Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. with a VFW Auxiliary Memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Caryl Gene Vinsand was born on May 30, 1930 at Rutland, Iowa to Lewis Jared and Gertrude Lucille (Clark) Heim.  Her parents passed away at an early age and she continued to live with her grandparents on a farm near Rutland.  She attended grade school at Rutland and graduated from Humboldt High School and following her education, Gene worked as a waitress in Humboldt.  She was united in marriage to Eugene Vinsand on October 14, 1949 at the Methodist Parsonage in Humboldt.  The couple made their homes in the Rutland, Dakota City and Humboldt areas.  The couple was married nearly 25 years when Mr. Vinsand passed away on March 31, 1974.  Later in life, Gene was employed in security at Humboldt Sausage until her retirement.

Gene was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church.  She was very active in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s lives and loved family genealogy.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Dakota City and the Humboldt Genealogy Society.

Gene is survived by her children, Shirley Vinsand of Humboldt, Randy (LeAnn) Vinsand of Humboldt, Ronny (Rhonda) Vinsand of Humboldt, Becky (Terry) Hansen of Royal, Iowa, and Gary (Tammy) Vinsand of Gilmore City; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Floyd (Bertha) Heim of Humboldt and Donnie (Connie) Heim of Ames.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; sister, Betsy Heim; brothers, Roy Heim and Gerald Heim; daughter-in-law, Lori Curran Vinsand; and sister-in-laws, Kathy Heim and Mildred Heim.
