Charlene Marie (Hoffman) Harvey, 80, of Humboldt, passed away on May 12, 2012 following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Humboldt on Tuesday, May 15 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held Monday evening at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m.
She was the daughter of Gordon and Marie (Day) Hoffman, and was born on a farm near Rutland, Iowa on July 19, 1931. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1949. Following graduation, she worked as a legal secretary in Humboldt and for the Humboldt County Recorders Office as the deputy recorder.
On March 15, 1953, she married Donald Dean Harvey of Goldfield at the Methodist Church in Humboldt. They farmed in Grove Township, beginning in 1954, raising primarily corn, soybeans and livestock; moving to Humboldt in 1994. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and the Women’s Improvement Club of Grove Township, and served as a leader for the West Grovettes 4-H Club. She made the best homemade rolls (requested often by her grandchildren), enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing scrabble with her family, and hosting brother Paul and nephew David at their annual fishing trip.
She is survived by her five children and 15 grandchildren: Deanna (Rick) Nervig, Hardy; Elaine (Mark) Edwards, Wamego, Kansas; Nancy (Dennis) Hahn, Ankeny; Cheryl Harvey, Necedah, Wisconsin; and Mark (Joni) Harvey, Goldfield; Grandchildren: Jenna, Matthew, and Amy Nervig; Jason, Nathan and Justin Edwards; Joe, Eric and Scott Hahn; Ashley, Abbey and Braedynn Jones; and Adam, Chelsey, and Jacob Harvey. She is also survived by her aunt Mildred Altman, Humboldt; sister Mary Lou Hoffman of Maryville, Missouri; brothers, Bruce Hoffman, Maryville, Missouri; and Paul Hoffman, Liberty, Missouri; sister-in-laws Valborg Harvey, Edina, Minnesota; Maxine Harvey, Sheffield; Grace Morris, Storm Lake; and brother-in-law Roger (Ellen) Harvey, Badger; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Megan Hahn; and sister, Jane Novak.
