Charles Christensen, 89, of Luverne, Minnesota, formerly of Humboldt, passed away May 6, 2012 at The Cottage Hospice House in Luverne, MN. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 11:30 – 12:30 at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Christenson, the son of Gunder and Loretta (Hourst) Christensen, was born March 8, 1923 in Round Lake, Minnesota. He was baptized on June 6, 1936 and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. He lived in Worthington and Fulda, Minnesota before moving to Humboldt after his retirement. On June 18, 2008 Charles entered the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne, Minnesota where he was a resident. Charles entered the Cottage Hospice House on Tuesday May 1, 2012 and died peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2012.
As a young man he farmed with his father and brothers. Charles enlisted in the US Navy on November 9, 1942 and was honorably discharged on January 13, 1946. He returned to farm for a short time before he purchased a café in Fulda, Minnesota. He met and married his wife, Viola “Vi” Beeck on February 4, 1951. He also worked at Ling Implement in Worthington, Funks Seed as a dealer and District Sales Manager and The Lutheran Digest.
Charles was a charter member of the Round Lake Legion and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. Charles deeply enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his wife, Viola; daughter Cheryl (Gary) Miller of Humboldt; and his son, Charles (Marcia) Christensen of Bayfield, Colorado. Charles was blessed with two grandchildren, Heather (Steve) MacLeod and Heidi Miller, both of Humboldt; and three great grandchildren, Christopher, Owen, and Hallie; and his sister, Loraine Balas. Charles was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Audrey; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
