Charles A. Joiner, 89, of Humboldt, passed away October 9, 2012 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt, with full military honors by the American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday in the Moorehouse Fellowship Hall at the church with a Masonic Memorial Service at 6 p.m.. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Allen Joiner, the son of Paul and Margarite (Crow) Joiner, was born May 9, 1923 on a farm near Gilmore City, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Gilmore City High School in 1941. Following his education, Chuck helped on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Army. He served with the 414th Engineer’s in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and went to work for Northwestern Bell where he remained for 38 years. In 1947, he was united in marriage to Ramona Hansen at the Methodist Parsonage and the couple made their home in Humboldt.
Following his retirement, Chuck remained active working for the Humboldt County Assessors Office, helping Merritt Torgerson install cable TV in Humboldt, and volunteering with Veterans Affairs. He was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, on the Board of Trustees, past president of Methodist Men, and past leader of UMYF. He was concerned about conservation and worked to maintain the bluebird population and transplanted many Colorado Aspen trees. He was a member of the Historical Society, the Jaycees, Eastern Star Lodge 195 where he served as past worshipful master and was involved with DeMolay, and served as Past Commander of the Adams American Legion.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Ramona “Moni” Joiner of Humboldt; daughter, Diane “Deedee” (Randy) Johnson of Okoboji; son, John (Stacy) Joiner of Ames; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn (Matt) Richardson, Katherine Diane Joiner, and Jane Elizabeth Joiner; great grandchildren, Charles and Addison Richardson; daughter-in-law, Josie Forrep of Adel; brothers, Donald and Phillip, both of Colorado Springs, CO, Richard of Westminster, CO, and Larry of Henderson, CO; and sisters, Beverly Wachtendorf of Canon City, CO and Phyllis Hoopingarner of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allen Eugene Joiner; brother, Robert; and sisters, Dorothy Erickson and Ilene McCarty.
