Charles D. "Chuck" Sexe

Charles D. “Chuck” Sexe, 89, of Humboldt, passed away on Thursday evening, December 29, 2022, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 9, 1933 in Mankato, Minnesota, the son of Marshall R. and Violet V. (Swanson) Sexe. He grew up and attended school in Mankato and when he was a junior in high school the family moved to Wells, Minnesota, where he graduated from Wells High School in 1952. Chuck was united in marriage to JoAnn Burns on May 5, 1954, and two weeks later began basic training for the United States Army and was deployed to Germany, serving during the Korean War as a tank commander. Following his discharge, he and JoAnn made their home in Albert Lea, Minnesota, later Fort Dodge, Iowa, and in 1963 moved to Humboldt. Chuck worked for many years in the Milling and Tool & Die industry. In retirement he taught machining for nineteen years at Iowa Central Community College. He enjoyed time with his family and attending their activities, fishing, and attending auctions. Chuck was very handy, and enjoyed working on small engines, making lamps out of musical instruments, brass figurines, and customized rings for his children and grandchildren.

Chuck is survived by his wife JoAnn of Humboldt, his children Brian (Anne) Sexe of Estherville, Jeff (Jeanne) Sexe of Waterloo, Mike (Cherese) Sexe of Humboldt and Jill (Jon) Siefken of Manson, his grandchildren Brad (Elissa), Danny (Courtney), Joseph, Jessica (Jordan), Jason (Kelsey), Nathan (Kiersten), Jordan (Rania), Marie (Tate), Sam, Austin, Zach & Matthew, 10 great-grandchildren, and his brother Bob Sexe of Penrose, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harlon, and his sister Sharon.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 7th at 11:00 a.m. and visitation will be one hour beforehand at 10:00 a.m. both at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Burial with military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard VFW & American Legion will be in Union Cemetery Humboldt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humboldt Public Library or Zion Lutheran Church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
