Cora Elaine Cox Heiter, 84, passed away September 26, 2019 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Roger Leon Heiter. They shared 65 years of marriage together.
Elaine, the daughter of John O. Cox and Berneice M. Christensen Cox, was born in Humboldt on April 7, 1935. She was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Plover High School.
She married Roger L. Heiter on December 20, 1953 at the Plover Presbyterian Church. Before retiring, Elaine served as bookkeeper and office manager for the following businesses in Humboldt; JF Anderson Lumber Yard, Linhart/Eggerich Chevrolet and the Ok Tire Store.
Elaine was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and was active in the church serving on many committees. These included the Ladies Fellowship and the Women’s Auxiliary as Treasurer. She also loved music and was active in the church choir. In her free time, Elaine enjoyed many years with friends participating in Bowling Leagues, Bridge Clubs and the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband and friend, Roger Leon Heiter, children Roger (Julie Harklau) Heiter of Humboldt and Ricky Heiter of Marshalltown, grandchildren Nichole Heiter (Josh) Holland of Ames and Gavin (Jacque) Heiter of Moravia, three great grandchildren; Shaylee Holland, Penelope and Finn Heiter, brother John (Marion) Cox of Houston, Texas and sister Janet (Dean) Hough of Des Moines. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents.
Elaine was also known for her love of dogs and preceded in death by many of her 4-legged friends. It was her wish to recognize them by name; Dusty, Midge, Pat, Misty, Pepper, Ginger, Mitzi, Babe, Amy, Deke, Faith, and Coy.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 5th from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service both at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. In lieu of flowers, memorials will go to the Congregational Church Choir/Music Fund.
