Craig S. Dorenkamp, 63 of Dakota City passed away Thursday January 2, 2014 at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be Sunday January 5 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home, The Reverend J. K. Raether officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 on Sunday at the funeral home before the service. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Craig Stephen Dorenkamp was born September 25, 1950 in Waterloo to Leonard and Jean (Pauley) Dorekamp. He grew up and attended school in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area, and he received his high school diploma from Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo. Craig lived with his parents and worked with his father in the construction and carpentry industry. During this time Craig lived and worked in Iowa, Colorado, and Minnesota. He moved to Humboldt in 1984 and continued working for his father until 1994. After that Craig was employed at Gunder Church Furniture in Dakota City and worked there for several years until his health failed. He maintained his home in Dakota City until his death.
Craig was a man of keen wit. His great passion in life was working on automobiles. Craig was at his best when he had a car project to work on. He also was a man great faith that sustained him in the tough times he faced in his life.
The people Craig leaves behind to cherish his memory include sisters Penny (Bill) Poutre and Dee Larson, both of Humboldt; nephews Bill Poutre, Matt Poutre, and Noah Larson; nieces Kelsey Larson Haley Larson; and special friend Frank Dahlsten.
