Darrell W. Buenting, 90, of Livermore, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Wednesday morning, October 3, 2024.
Darrell was born July 9, 1934 at home on the family farm by Palmer, Iowa the son of Bill and Anna (Klaassen) Buenting. They spoke only German at home and learned to speak English when they attended a one room school house in the Palmer and Pomeroy area. He later graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1952. He enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years being stationed in Iceland. Following his discharge, he returned home and started a trucking company and then he was an over the road truck driver before he moved to Humboldt to manage Croft Ready Mix. He then moved on to Fort Dodge Asphalt where he managed the sand plant, retiring in the late 1990’s. During his retirement, Darrell enjoyed helping on the Erickson farm. He loved motorcycles, held a pilot’s license, enjoyed NASCAR, and deer hunting. Trips with family to Florida were a highlight for Darrell as family and friends were extremely important to him.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen of Livermore, his daughter Lisa (Scott) Montgomery of Livermore, sister Elsie Ann Moore of Pomeroy, sister-in-law’s Dolly Buenting of Texas and Janet Buenting of California as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin, Don, Larry and Bill.
A Celebration of Life and Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Talk starting at 3:00 p.m. and a reception to follow on Saturday, October 19 at the River Valley Orchard & Winery in Humboldt.
