Della Neal Trauger, 95, of Humboldt, passed away January 6, 2017 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Livermore. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.
Della Louise Wells, the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Hauck) Wells, was born July 19, 1921 in Dakota City, Iowa. She was raised and educated at Livermore and graduated from Livermore High School with the class of 1938. Della then attended Business College in Des Moines before taking a position in the FSDA Office in Humboldt. In 1945, Della was united in marriage to Meritt Neal following his return from World War II and the couple made their home in Bode where they owned and operated the DX Station and Café. In 1953, Meritt took a position with Sears and Roebuck and the couple moved to Colorado Springs, CO where Della was employed as a Principal’s Secretary in the Colorado Springs School District until her retirement in 1973. In their retirement, the couple continued to make their home in Colorado Springs and enjoyed winters spent in Arizona until Meritt passed away in 1987.
Della got reacquainted with a high school sweetheart, Harold Trauger, and they were married on August 20, 1997 at her son’s home in Flagstaff, AZ. They made their home in Sun City, AZ until July of 2002 when they moved to Springvale Senior Living in Humboldt. They became resident of the Long Term Care Unit where Harold passed away in April of 2012.
Della was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. She enjoyed card and board games, reading her daily devotions, and was especially interested in the people around her. She is survived by her son, Gregory (Louise) Neal of Island Park, ID; grandchildren, Robert Neal of Phoenix, AZ, Matthew (Shannon) Neal of Fort Worth, TX, and Stefanie (Kevin) Shalkowsky of Portland, OR; three great-grandchildren; step-sons, David (Alice) Trauger of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Dean (Katherine) Trauger of Mankato, MN, and Daryl (Elaine) Trauger of Overland Park, KS; six step-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Meritt Neal; and second husband, Harold Trauger.
