Dennis Dean May

Dennis D. May, 71, of Humboldt, passed away August 16, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Dennis Dean May, the son of Ronald “Ron” and Verna (Torgerson) May, was born July 6, 1944 at the hospital in Algona, Iowa. They lived at Bode until moving to Hardy in 1945. Dennis attended Hardy Independent and Vernon Consolidated Schools and graduated from Boone Valley High School in 1962. Following his education, he helped his father farm and worked for Hood’s Super Valu in Humboldt. In 1963 he went to work for Hawkeye Structures building Harvestore silos and in the winter worked for Hallet Construction in their quarry in Gilmore City.
On October 27, 1963, Dennis was united in marriage to Gloria Boughton. The couple farmed together in Humboldt County and Dennis also worked as a truck driver for a time. In 1989, he became a Garst Seed Corn Dealer until 2009 when he passed it to his son, Kurt.
Dennis was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. He served on the boards of Farmers Coop and Star Energy and was a member of the Hardy Coop. He loved to farm and took great pride in helping plant the crop this spring. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Gloria of Humboldt; children, Kevin May of Belmond, Kristine May of Humboldt, Kelli Nicholson of Humboldt, and Kurt (Cheryl) May of Humboldt; grandchildren, Dylan and Alexandria; Ashlyn, Taylor, and Tracen; Hailey, Gracey, Sharisse (Matt) and Alexis; great grandchildren, Owen and Harper; and his brother, Myron (Karen) May of Humboldt. His parents preceded him in death.
