Derrick W. Petersen, 35, of Livermore, died May 10, 2016 as a result of an automobile accident. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Derrick is survived by his father, Wayne Petersen of Livermore; his mother, Phyllis Petersen of Ida Grove; his grandparents, Phillip and Mavis Hast of Ida Gove; aunts and uncles, Carlene and Larry Huerta of Fox River Grove, IL, Carole and Vern Wynn of Kingsley, Jean and Ed Stuckey of Fort Payne, AL, Willis Petersen of Schleswig, Wes and Lisa Petersen of Lawton, Tammy and Doug Wunschel of Early, Pam and Joe Nelson of Marcus, Marty Hast of Olathe, KS, Mark and Kim Hast of Sioux City; and his numerous cousins. Derrick is also survived by his birth family which includes his birth mother, Carol (Allan) Remmick of Spencer; grandmother, Janice Hoffard of Sac City; sisters, Angie (Eddie) Lambert of Omaha, and Shelly (Matt) Peterson of Early; brother Aaron (Angela) Kading of Sac City; and his nieces and nephews, including his special nephew, Braden Lambert. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Gladys Petersen, and his cousin, Julie Malm.
Derrick Wayne Petersen was born July 8, 1980 at Lake City, Iowa. As a newborn, he was adopted into the home of Wayne and Phyllis Peterson at Odebolt. In 1991, he moved with his father to Livermore. He attended Mease Elementary School and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 2001. Following his education, Derrick made his home with his father and had many adventures.
Derrick enjoyed drag racing and time spent with his friends. He loved animals, especially his faithful dog, Jake.
