Donald Vernon Barnes, 77, of Bode passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at home surrounded by family following a lengthy illness.
Don was born in Ute, Iowa on November 17, 1943 to Chester and Viola (Pranschke) Barnes. He was raised in Mapleton, Iowa. At the age of 14 he went to work for Booth and Olson in Sioux City. Don has always worked ashphalt. He worked for P & M Stone, Humboldt Asphalt and for 43 years at Black Top Service in Humboldt.
In 1972 he married Myra Renken Barnes and moved to Bode where they raised their combined family. Don enjoyed working on cars, he was happy in his garage. He did metal and wood working in his spare time. And he enjoyed riding his Harley.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Kenneth, Ronnie, Gary and Terry, and infant grandson Geffrey Donald.
He is survived by his wife Myra and former wife Jan Bryant of Missouri , son’s Donald Dean (Angela) Barnes of Gilmore City and Larry Johnson of Bode, daughter Delta Dawn Guns of Bode, grandchildren Chester, Symba, Hailey, Donny, Amanda, Bryan, Christopher, Ethan and Falcon, seven great-grandchildren, his sister Judy Furne of Battle Creek, sister Jolene (Dick) Streck of Schleswig, and Rick (Denise) Barnes of Harlan, Iowa.
Visitation will be held March 13, 2021 at 1:00 – 2:00pm at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode with funeral services to begin at 2:00pm. Masks are required. Mason-Lindhart Funeral Service will be assisting the family.
