Donald E. Dyvig, 93, of Humboldt, passed away March 30, 2016 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Private family graveside services will be held this weekend in Union Cemetery in Humboldt. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Donald Edward Dyvig, the son of Edward and Mary (Stone) Dyvig was born March 4, 1923 in Weaver Township, Humboldt County, Iowa. He attended rural schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1941. Donald entered radio school in Kansas City in 1942 and went into the U.S. Air Force in 1943. After completing basic training, he was assigned to Navigation School and received his commission.
On September 10, 1948, Donald was united in marriage to Ardis Engstrom and to this union two sons were born, David Leslie and Donald Paul. The family farmed in Corinth Township. Donald and Ardis moved into Humboldt in 2001.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Ardis Dyvig of Humboldt; his sons, David of Ankeny and Paul of Albert Lea, MN; his grandchildren, Elisabeth, Rachel, Rebekah, Keren, Daniel (Kristin), Gabriel, Elisha, Deborah, Michael, Luke, Jesse, and Julia.
He also leaves one brother, Merlin Dyvig and family, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two little brothers, Norman and Warren in 1939.
Donald was a cancer survivor since 1953. He spent many hours reading and listening to the old hymns that he loved. He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and belonged to the American Legion.
