Donald A. Johnson, 74, of Bode, passed away August 26, 2016 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode with the Rev. James Borlaug officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Bode. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Bode is assisting the family.
Donald Allen Johnson, the son of Amos and Eva (Axdahl) Johnson, was born April 12, 1942 on a farm near Hardy. He was raised on the farm and received his education in Renwick, graduating from Boone Valley High School. Following his education, Don was employed by the Chantland Company for a time. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Bjorklund on June 23, 1962 at Lake Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on various farms in Humboldt County and near Eagle Grove. On January 31, 1969, the family moved to their farm south of Bode. In addition to his farming operations, Don worked as a salesman for Ernie Williams John Deere in Algona for 37 years. Don retired from John Deere in April of last year and continued to farm until his death.
Donald was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors and buying and selling cars. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring tractors and participated in many tractor rides around the state.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Johnson of Bode and his children, Julie Johnson of Boone and Randy (Lori) Johnson of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Eva (Axdahl) Johnson; brothers, Alvin and Arnold Johnson; and sister, Genora Rossing.
