Donald S. Madsen, 89, of Bradgate passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 in Humboldt.
Donald was born on September 14, 1931 in Bradgate, the son of John and Edna (Henderson) Madsen. He grew up and graduated from Bradgate High School. Shortly after graduating, Donald worked as a farmhand, until enlisting into the United States Army in 1952 serving in the Korea war. After being discharged, Donald ran two gas stations, one in Bradgate and one in Pomeroy. After his father’s passing in 1967, Donald took over the family century farm until 2018.
He was a member of the VFW holding several offices, American Legion and Farm Bureau where he served as president. Donald was a man of strong faith and was a member of Rutland Trinity Lutheran church until it’s closing when he joined Our Saviours Lutheran church in Humboldt. Donald enjoyed hunting, collecting firearms and going to gun shows and farm sales.
Donald is survived by siblings, Dean Madsen of La Moille, Illinois, Norman (Patricia) Madsen of Monroe, Roger (Shirley) Madsen of Sheffield and Joan Heiter of Humboldt, along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene Madsen and sisters-in-law Florence Madsen and Betty Madsen, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Ottosen. Memorials may be made to Bradgate Fire Department.
