Donna Anderson, 89, of Humboldt, passed away October 26, 2008 at her home at Springvale Assisted Living. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ullensvang Lutheran Church at Thor with the Rev. Chris Lang and Rev. Paul Stone officiating. Interment will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Gwen Johnson of Moorland, and Conrad and Phyllis Johnson of Ottosen; sister, Ruth Cohoon of Sandwich, IL; nieces and nephews, Roger and Diane Knudson, Janet Dobbs, Bonnie Cohoon, Barbara Craft-Thorn, Jim and Margene Johnson, Danny and Roxann Johnson, Kristin and Dean Seiber, and Scott and Kim Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Selmar Anderson; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Richard Dinius; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Victor Knudson; and brother-in-law, Delbert Cohoon.
Donna Johnson, the daughter of James and Marie (Torgerson) Johnson, was born May 15, 1919 at Ottosen, Iowa. As a child she moved with her family to Bradgate and then to Thor where Donna graduated from High School. In 1940, she was united in marriage to Selmar Anderson. During World War II while Selmar served in the South Pacific, Donna worked for the war effort in a bomber plant in Omaha where she helped build many bombers including the Enola Gay. Following the war, Selmar and Donna made their home at Fort Dodge until 1960 when they moved to Omaha. The couple retired in 1978 and in 1984, they moved to Humboldt. Mr. Anderson passed away in 2000 and Donna returned to Omaha to live with her daughter, Connie. Following Connie’s death from cancer, Donna returned to Humboldt and made her home at Springvale Assisted Living.
Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Ullensvang Lutheran Church at Thor. She was an avid golfer and liked reading until her eyesight failed then enjoyed audio books. Donna enjoyed her time at Springvale where she took part in activities and especially enjoyed bingo.
