Donnie Wind, 101, of Humboldt, passed away February 22, 2017 at the Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, Illinois. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Visitation is from 5 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 3rd at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt.
Myfanwy “Donnie” Davies, the daughter of David and Sue (Hughes) Davies, was born the oldest of three children on January 9, 1916 at Lake Crystal, Minnesota. She lived with her family on a homestead in Sioux Pass, Montana where she attended country schools on the western prairie and graduated from high school in Sydney, Montana. Following her graduation, Donnie worked for the county engineer in the courthouse at Sydney.
She was united in marriage to a high school classmate, Duane Wind, in 1940 at Sioux Pass, Montana. The couple moved to Iowa where Duane attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. His teaching career took the family to Fayette County and Toledo before moving to Humboldt.
In 1950, Donnie and Duane established Winds Bootery in Humboldt, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1987.
Mr. Wind passed away in 1990 and Donnie continued to maintain her home in Humboldt. In September of 2016, Donnie moved to St. Charles, Illinois to be close to her daughter.
Donnie was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt where she was active in UMW and was a faithful member of the church choir. She served as president and secretary of the Humboldt Women’s Club and was a long time member of the Noon Kiwanis Club in Humboldt where she had served as secretary and was an avid supporter of Christmasland. She was also active in the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Humboldt County Republican Women. Donnie loved music and was involved in choruses and quartets, performing for many organizations, clubs, and community events and was a member of Sweet Adeline’s.
Donnie is survived by her children, LaVonne (Donald) Howell of Burlington, WI, Richard (Ann) Wind of Hemet, CA, Kenneth (Lavaun) Wind of Clear Lake, Valoyce (Robert) Adams of St. Charles, IL, and Ronald (Rhonda) Wind of Algonquin, IL; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane Wind; her brother, Lyn Davies; and her sister, Vivian McCoy of Atascadero, CA.
Donnie’s family strongly encourages memorials be made in her memory to the Humboldt Noon Kiwanis Club for their projects including Christmasland.
