Dorathy Terwilliger Boom, 96, of Humboldt, passed away November 15, 2008 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.
Dorathy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Mervin Peterson of Tucson, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, Lloyd Gochenour of Humboldt; sister, Vera Huddleston of Jamestown, TN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lloyd Terwilliger and the Rev. Elmer Boom; daughters and sons-in-law, Meda and Val Pederson and Glory and Leo Feeley; brothers, Roy, Carl, and Gerald Gochenour; sister, Della Stevenson; and nieces and nephews.
Dorathy Elmira Gochenour, the daughter of Elvin and Rose (Davis) Gochenour, was born August 31, 1912 in Humboldt County. She was raised and educated in the Humboldt area and graduated from Humboldt High School. Following her education, Dorathy worked in various positions as a secretary and bookkeeper in the Humboldt area. She was united in marriage to Lloyd “Barney” Terwilliger on December 31, 1930. The couple made their home in Dakota City until moving to Humboldt. Dorathy became the co-owner of the Humboldt Reminder, which she operated until her retirement in 1974. Mr. Terwilliger passed away in 1974 and Dorathy continued to maintain her home until moving to Friendship Haven. It was there where she met and married the Rev. Elmer Boom. Rev. boom passed away in 2004 and in November of 2005 Dorathy became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North.
Dorathy was a life-long member of the Faith United Methodist Church and a member of the Royal Neighbors.
