Dorothea E. Anderson, 88, of Humboldt, passed away September 8, 2015 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Re. Alberta Ervin officiating. Interment will be in the National Cemetery at Van Meter, Iowa. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Dorothea is survived by her children, Karen Anderson of Denver, CO, Donna Anderson of Bloomington, MN, Linda (Robert Ford) Reigelsberger of Gilmore City, Patricia Austin of Grinnell, and Gary (Kirsten) Anderson of Red Wing, MN; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alan; grandson, William Reigelsberger; and great grandson, Mickey Culbertson.
Dorothea E. Gregerson, the daughter of George and Anna (Larson) Gregerson, was born January 10, 1927 at Kenosha, Wisconsin. She received her education and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1945. On September 27, 1946, Dorothea was united in marriage to Alan Anderson. The couple made their home in Kenosha for three years where Dorothea served as an associate teacher. In 1949, Alan and Dorothea’s growing family relocated to Humboldt where she was employed in Elsie’s Café and for many years at Lane’s Clothing.
Mr. Anderson passed away in February of 2006 and Dorothea continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of Springvale. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church where she served on many committees, was a Sunday School teacher, and was active in UMW and choir. She was a member of Eastern Star, Understanding Sisters, Silver Sisters and served as past president of the Hospital Auxiliary and Hospice of Humboldt County. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with Alan.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothea’s family asks that you share your favorite memory of their mother with them and memorials will be made to charities of the family’s choice.
