Dr. Larry L. Dunscombe, 86, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully Monday morning, July 29, 2024, under hospice care at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Larry was born April 28, 1938 in Fort Dodge, the son of William and Ruby (Findley) Dunscombe. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1956. Larry attended the University of Iowa on a pole-vaulting scholarship, majoring in dentistry. Following the first year at Iowa he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carol A. Loftus on September 7, 1957. The couple made their home in Iowa City for the next seven years while Larry earned his Doctorate in Dentistry. In 1964, the couple moved to Humboldt where they raised their family and Larry entertained the neighbor kids on summer evenings following work, with rides on his little red scooter. He became a partner with Dr. Hal Schuchmann in their dental practice. Later he would operate Dunscombe Dental Practice and serve the dental needs of Humboldt and the surrounding area with his son, Rob. Dr. Dunscombe retired from practice in 2018. Larry had a passion for wood working, enjoyed traveling, skiing, fishing and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Carol of Humboldt, his daughter Lisa (John) Weydert of Jordan, Minnesota, his grandchildren; Nick Battig, Hailee Weydert, Hannah Weydert, Hadley Weydert, Luke (Natalie) Dunscombe, William Dunscombe and Elise Dunscombe, two great-grandchildren Robbie June and Callan John and his sister, Dolly Rosales of Cocoa Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Laura, sons Rob and Rich, sisters Norma, Tilly and Shirley and his brothers George and Dave.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 3rd at St. Mary Catholic Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the start of the Mass, Saturday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com
