Duane A. Larsen, 91, of Humboldt, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 14, 2023, at the West Bend Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born December 31, 1931, in Bradgate to Arthur and Martha (Madsen) Larsen. He was raised and educated in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served as a sergeant in the Korean War. Duane was united in marriage to Sharon Reed on August 12, 1955. The couple made their home in Humboldt. He worked mainly in sales and service in the Ag Industry, retiring from Land O’ Lakes, later working as a custodian for the Humboldt County Court House. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, served as Past President of the church board, served as Past President of the Humboldt-Dakota City Jaycees, was a member of the VFW and a member of a card club in Humboldt.
Duane was an honest Christian man, who loved his family dearly. He would always do what he could for others and never expected anything in return. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Duane always had a smile on his face and looked at the positive side of life. He chose to be happy and lived his life that way.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Kristy (Jon Lantz) Cavanaugh of Grand Island, Nebraska, Scott (Melody) Larsen of Winterset, Corey (Mindy) Larsen of Garland, Texas and Dan (Mitch Brown) Larsen of Atlanta, Georgia, four grandchildren, Jennifer (Matthew) VanBoening, Nathan (Wendy) Bettes, Kodi (Chad) Stone and Desiree (Edward) David, eight great-grandchildren and his brother John (Naeko) Larsen of Nashua, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James and Virgil, son-in-law, John Cavanaugh, daughter-in-law Rosalie Larsen and his grandson Jack Cavanaugh.
