Earl M. Nielsen, 83, of Humboldt, passed away January 25, 2012 at the VanDiest Medical Center in Webster City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Earl Marvin Nielsen, the son of Christian and Edith Nielsen, was born June 7, 1928 near Webb, Iowa. In 1937, the family moved to a farm near Gilmore City and Earl received his education at Bradgate. Following his education, Earl began farming. He was united in marriage to Shirley Shelgren on June 3, 1951. The couple farmed together near Gilmore City where they raised their six children.
In 1997, Earl and Shirley moved to Humboldt. Mrs. Nielsen passed away in 2009 and Earl continued to maintain his home until his death.
Through his family, Earl was associated with the Oak Hill Baptist Church. His greatest loves were his family and his farm. He is survived by his children, Larry (Susan) Nielsen of Gilmore City, Marvin and (Monie) Nielsen of Renwick, Vicky (Steve) Deering of Northfield, MN, Rick (Jane) Nielsen of Gilmore City, Shelly (Steve) Umstead of Humboldt, and Curt Nielsen of Gilmore City; grandchildren, Jamie DeWinter, Brian Benjamin, Jessica Harklau, Ashley Kirchhoff, Barry Benjamin, Clayton Nielsen. Chlorissa Moore, Melissa Nielsen, Ryan Nielsen, Cody Nielsen, Chris Nielsen, Jenna Umstead, CeeJay Nielsen, and Luke Nielsen; great grandchildren, Reese DeWinter, Allison Benjamin, Skylar Nielsen, Darby DeWinter, Houston Nielsen, Carter Nielsen, Draven Harklau, Sawyer Kirchhoff, and Weston Nielsen; brothers, Floyd (Theo) Nielsen of Pocahontas, Harry (Shirley) Nielsen of Gilmore City, and Fred (Christine Nielsen of Gilmore City. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; and infant brother, Julian Nielsen.
