Edward Miltner, 63, of Gilmore City passed away Tuesday July 21, 2015 at Unity Point Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Monday July 27 at St. Mary’s Church in Humboldt, Father James Tigges celebrating. Friends and family may call at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt on Sunday from 3 to 6 PM. A parish scripture service will be held at 5:30 at the Funeral Home. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt is assisting the family.
Edward Miltner was born May 1, 1952 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City to Bernard and Marlys (Rinderknecht) Miltner. He second of seven children in his family, Edward was raised and educated in Solon, Iowa. After graduating from Solon High School in 1970, Edward attended Area 10 (now Kirkwood) Community College in Cedar Rapids, where he studied TV and radio engineering. He worked for WQAD in Davenport and enjoyed working on telecasts of professional wrestling which originated there in the 1970s. In the Spring of 1974 Ed began working with Iowa Public Television (IPTV). He continued to work in their employ until the time the time of his passing. He served in Iowa City for Channel 12 and at remote sites including the Humboldt area. He settled in the Gilmore City area permanently in 2007.
Ed enjoyed coffee and the people who drank it with him. He liked his Keurig machine and the various creamers. He loved to travel and earned his pilot’s license. Ed enjoyed reading, particularly Tom Clancy novels. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt and recently joined the Knights of Columbus. In summary of Ed’s life, it is fair to say that the job was the man. He loved his job and worked at it diligently. Ed summed up his philosophy of life with the statement “You can’t fix stupid.”
Remaining to share Ed’s memory are his siblings Joseph (Cindy) Miltner of Port St. Lucy, FL; Robert Miltner of Solon; Christine (Jeff) Burian and Cedar Rapids; and Eric (Paula) Miltner of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, coffee chums and brother Knights. Preceding Ed in death were his parents, sister Deb Hebl, and brother Greg Miltner. Memorials may be left to the discretion of Ed’s family.
