Edwin E. “Ted” Erickson, 90, of Humboldt, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away March 15, 2018 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Oak Hill Church in Humboldt with Pastor Doug Wolter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Dodge with full military rites by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Ted Erickson, the son of Edwin W. and Trenvilla M. (Finnestead) Erickson, was born July 27, 1927 in Perry, Iowa. He moved with his family to Barnum, Iowa in 1939 where he received his education. Edwin served with the United States Army Signal Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home. He was united in marriage to Betty King on June 28, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Ted farmed all of his life and delivered the Fort Dodge Messenger to other towns for 32 years.
Betty passed away on August 14, 1999. During an appointment at the Iowa Heart Center on June 2, 2002, he met Dorothy Rice in the waiting room and they were united in marriage on October 3, 2003. The couple made their home in Humboldt where they attended Oak Hill Church.
Ted is survived by his wife Dorothy of Humboldt; his children Barbara (Dennis) Rusher, Kathy Zoch, Sherri (Kent) Johnson, and Becky (Bill) Vit; step children Jackie (Jim) Fevold and Larry Rice; grandchildren, Melissa (Dan) Libhart, Kristi (Joshua) Knittel, Beth (Justin) Spencer, Tommy Baker, Steve Baker, Sarah (Matt) Harms, Fr. Will Vit, Dallas (Teresa) Vit, and Julie (Dan) Winninger; step grandchildren, Jared (Melissa) Fevold, Jennifer (Andrew) Trunkhill, Justin Fevold, Heather (Ryan) Turner, Tara Erickson, Trevor Rice, Cody Rice, Derek (Cassie) Rice, Nick (Toni) Rice, Kayla (TJ) Williams, and Nathan Rice; 15 great grandchildren and 23 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; great grandchildren, Payton Knittel, Sydney Baker, and Lucas Harms; stepson, Terry Rice; brother, Dono Erickson and sister Carmon Sandal.
