Eleanor J. Halliday, 89, of Humboldt, passed away December 17, 2013 at the Humboldt Care Center South. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Eleanor June Bloomquist, the daughter of Oscar and Grace (Schulze) Bloomquist, was born on June 12, 1924 in Webster County, Iowa. She was raised and received her education in Webster County.
On January 12, 1944, she was united in marriage to Arthur J. Knutson and they lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Mary, James, and Karen. Arthur died on November 20, 1958.
On December 27, 1959 she was united in marriage to John R. Halliday and to this union a son, Roger, was born. After their marriage they lived on a farm in Hamilton County until January of 1964 when they moved to their farm in Humboldt County. They moved into the City of Humboldt in 1971. John died on January 19, 2002. Eleanor continued to maintain her home until moving to the Humboldt Care Center South on November 6, 2006.
She is survived by her son, Roger (Donna) Halliday of Webster City; daughters, Mary (John) Hobscheidt of Corwith and Karen (Marvin) Andersen of Humboldt; daughter-in-law, Janice Knutson of Humboldt; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Robert Halliday, Sr. of Webster City.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Arthur and John; son, James Knutson; four brothers; and two sisters.
Eleanor’s life enjoyment was her family. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting, and crocheting.
