Eleanor C. Meyer, 94, of Humboldt passed away March 21, 2010 at the Humboldt Care Center South. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt with Fr. Jim Tigges officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home.
Mrs. Meyer is survived by her sister-in-laws, Doris Callahan and Mary Callahan both of Humboldt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; son, Dennis; brothers, Bernard, Edward, John, and Maurice Callahan; and sisters, Kathleen Fitzgerald, Sara Phillips, and Mary Kunert.
Eleanor C. Callahan was born February 19, 1916 on a farm in East Grove Township, Humboldt County. She was the last of eight children born to William Edward and Helen “Nellie” (Sherman) Callahan. She was educated in Humboldt County schools and graduated with the Humboldt High School class of 1935.
On June 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Merle Joseph Meyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Armstrong, Iowa. The couple made their home at Humboldt. Mrs. Meyer worked as a homemaker and in clerical positions with the superintendent of schools, businesses, and the hospital. She was active in St. Mary’s Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
