Eleanor E. Krueger-McIlquham, 95 of Humboldt, passed away with her family by her side on Monday morning, January 23, 2023 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 6, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Florence (Olson) Carlson. She grew up on the Southside of Chicago and was part of a large extended family that gathered together often. She graduated from Morgan Park High School and went on to attend nursing school. She was united in marriage to Robert Krueger on November 26, 1948. The couple made their home in Chicago, then Bay City, Michigan for a short time before moving to Des Moines where they raised their family. They owned and operated the Stitch Store at Merle Hay Mall. After the marriage ended she worked for a time at American Family Insurance Company.
In the Fall of 1988 Ellie married Jim McIlquham. The couple made their home on the family orchard in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and they loved to travel. Following Jim’s death in 1995, she moved to Humboldt where she worked at Patricia’s, Thomas Jewelers and Sew Many Quilts. Ellie had a passion for fabrics, enjoyed sewing and quilting and will be remembered as a kind, sweet and gentle woman.
She is survived by her daughters Pam Ray of Humboldt, Sue (Sam) Flanders of Bloomfield, Michigan, Marsha (Dave) Sweet of Johnston and her son Tom Krueger of Winterset, her grandchildren Brian, Jenny (Kyle), Chris, Josh, Nathan (Sara), Jesse (Yi-Ling) and Ben (Laura), her great-grandchildren Morgan, Keegan, Logan, Ryan, Ellie and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim and her sister Audrey.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Please remember Ellie in your own special way. Memorials in her name may be made to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Foundation or the American Heart Association.
