Elliott H. Skow, 92, of Humboldt, passed away December 11, 2010 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt with full military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Skow is survived by his wife, Verna Skow of Humboldt; children, Linda (Joe) Miller of Ankeny, Paul Skow of Rutland, Marlene (Pete) Coughlin of Champlin, MN, and Mike Skow of Rutland; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis; and sisters, Thelma Clit and Ruby Sanford.
Elliott H. Skow, the son of Peter and Mary (Hansen) Skow was born January 6, 1918 on the family farm near Rutland. He received his education in country schools and graduated from Rutland High School. In 1942, Elliott enlisted into the United States Army and served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, He returned home and on December 9, 1945, was united in marriage to Verna Benz at the Methodist Parsonage in Humboldt. The couple made their home briefly in Humboldt before moving to a rented farm east of Rutland in 1949. In 1955, the couple moved to the home place where they farmed and managed their dairy operations together. In 1977, the couple moved into Humboldt and in 2004, they made their home at Springvale Senior Living.
Elliot was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Rutland and was a past board member of W&H COOP and the Humboldt Creamery. He was also a member of Farm Bureau.
