Emma "Emmie" E. Bjornson, 82, of Humboldt, passed away at her home on the evening of March 29, 2014. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt with Fr. James Tigges officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 pm Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A Parish Rosary will be at 4:45 pm and a Parish Scripture Service at 7 pm Tuesday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Emma “Emmie” E. Dittrich, the daughter of Rudolf and Emma (Hoefer) Dittrich, was born at Oakdale, Nebraska on October 9, 1931. In 1948, she graduated from high school in Tilden, Nebraska. Following graduation, she moved to Humboldt where she was employed by her brother, Raymond, as a bookkeeper.
She was united in marriage to Harvey “Ben” Bjornson in November of 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Mary’s Society, Questers International, and enjoyed her participation in two bridge clubs for many years. She enjoyed her flower garden and antiquing, but her family and grandchildren were the loves of her life.
Those who shared the joy of her life were her husband, Ben; her five children, Mike (Pam) Bjornson of Humboldt, Marcia (Mark) Ecker of Cedar Falls, Elizabeth (Gary Visser) Bjornson of Sullivan’s Island, S.C., Cheryl (Doug) Yanik of Cary, N.C., and Melanie (David) Graf of Argyle, TX; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Jerome (Kay) Dittrich, Rudy (Elaine) Dittrich, and Florian Dittrich all of Tilden, NE; and her former daughter-in-law, Kay Bradford. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond, Emile, Paul, and Marcellus Dittrich; sister, Tillie Hoersch; and grandchildren, Andrew James Graf and Laura Faith Graf.
