Ernest D. Erickson, 90, of Humboldt passed away August 25, 2010 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. David Hobbs officiating.  Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.  Visitation with the family is 4-7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Mr. Erickson is survived by his wife, Bernice; children, Larry (Kathy) Erickson of Livermore, Allen (Michelle) Erickson of Hardy, Sheri Erickson of Ankeny, and Kristi (Dean) Morgan of Ankeny; grandchildren, Brandon, Brett, Jessica, Trevor, and Erika Erickson, Mary Jo and Phillip Morgan, Tyler Erickson, Ben (Sandy) Houle and Sarah (Josh) Oehrlein; great grandchildren, David Erickson, Jordan and Tori Oehrlein, and Amaya Houle; and his sister, DeEtte Enfield of Humboldt.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Goldie Koberg and Myrtle Grimminger; brothers, Ansel, Ray, Dale, Adrian, and Earl; and an infant granddaughter, Anna.
Ernest Desko Erickson, the son of Freeman and Christina (Sorgenson) Erickson, was born November 26, 1919 at Red Cloud, Nebraska.  As a young boy, the family moved to Silver Creek Ranch at St. Paul, Nebraska.  Ernest attended country school and graduated from Elba High School.  In 1939, he moved to Badger and then to Humboldt County.  Ernest served with distinction and was wounded at New Guinea in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star with clusters, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart before his honorable discharge.  He returned home to begin his farming operations.   On October 23, 1955, Ernest was united in marriage to Bernice Mogler at the United Methodist Church in Algona and to this union two sons and two daughters were born.  They made their home in the farm all of their married lives until moving to Springvale Assisted Living in January of 2008.

Mr. Erickson was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church where he served on the Moorehouse Hall Building Committee, Methodist Men, and was a past member of the Hardy Elevator Board.
