Ethel J. Palmeter, 95, of St. Augustine, FL, formerly of Humboldt, passed away May 18, 2014. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. in the Clear Lake Cemetery, at the Wrisberg family plot. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ethel Julia Simonsen, the daughter of Peter and Julia Anna (Sorensen) Simonsen, was born March 4, 1919 on a farm in Humboldt County. She received her education at Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School. She was united in marriage to John Wrisberg in 1946. To this union three sons were born, John, Gregory, and Michael. The family made their home in several states including California, Hawaii, and Illinois. Following John’s death in the line of duty as a test pilot for the United States Air Force, Ethel retuned to Humboldt. She later married John Palmeter and that marriage was later dissolved.
Ethel was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, ELCW, the VFW Auxiliary, the Humboldt Historical Society, and the Gold Star Wives. She is survived by her son, Gregory Wrisberg of St. Augustine, FL; two grandchildren, Rachel and Hillary; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, John Wrisberg who was killed in action in Vietnam and Michael Wrisberg who died as the result of a motorcycle accident; her husband, John Wrisberg, Sr.; brothers, Jens, Harry, and Ted Simonsen; and sisters, Edna Johnson, Anna Kjeer, Ida Hansen, and Betty Johnson.
