Eugene H. Jorgensen

Eugene H. Jorgensen, 85, of Latimer, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening, June 16, 2024 at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

He was born April 9, 1939, at home near Beeds Lake, Hampton, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Leona (Pralle) Jorgensen. He grew up on a farm south of Coulter and attended country school, later St. Paul’s Lutheran School then graduated from Franklin Consolidated in 1957. He enlisted in the National Guard and following his discharge returned home to work on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Mardell M. Stadtlander on August 31, 1963 in Meservey. The couple made their home in Coulter for a short time and then moved to a farm south of Coulter, then the family farm. While farming, Gene also worked at Omnium in Hampton, , opened cemetery graves, sold seed corn and measured bins for the ASCS. In retirement he and his wife moved to Latimer where he enjoyed playing cards with friends, playing cribbage and doing word find puzzles. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton.

He is survived by his wife Mardell of Latimer, his children Darla (John) Griffiths of Waukee, Douglas (Melinda) Jorgensen of Hampton and Deanne (Matt) Sallee of Hudson, his grandchildren Emma, Jacob (Amanda), Lisa (Michael), Anne (Zach), Alan, Paula (Nicholas), Madison (Zach), Kylee, Thomas (Whitney) and Krista (Anthony), his great-grandchildren Dexter, Lyndy, Deklen, Stetson, Landon and Waverley, his brothers Charles (Joyce) Jorgensen of Clive and LeRoy (Janice) Jorgensen of Humboldt, also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21st at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton and visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20th also at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Latimer. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com
