Evelyn I. Ruby, 87, of Humboldt, passed away January 13, 2015 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether and Rev. Aaron Flatau officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Irene Kruse, the daughter of Ed and Alfreda (Helmke) Kruse, was born June 2, 1927 at the home of her aunt in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. As a young child, she moved with her parents to a farm near Hardy, Iowa. She attended Vernon Consolidated School where she was active in band and basketball. She graduated form Vernon in 1945.
Following her education, Evelyn moved to Waterloo where she worked as a secretary for Rath Packing Co. On May 18, 1947, she was united in marriage to Eugene Ruby at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Renwick. The couple made their home in Humboldt.
After the birth of her children, Evelyn worked part time for the Humboldt Reminder, Woods Café, and as a cook for Mease Elementary School.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gene Ruby of Humboldt; her children, Bruce (Becky) Ruby, Buck Ruby, and Tracy (Ed) Newman all of Humboldt and Pam (Paul) Davis of Eagle Grove; ten grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Her parents and 2 sisters, Viola Greenwood and Ethel Daman, preceded her in death.
