Floy A. Cody, 96, of Owatonna, MN and formerly of Humboldt, Ia passed away November 15th at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday November 21st at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 10-12 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield, Iowa
Mrs. Cody is survived her by daughter, Gloria (Ted) Baumgartner of Athens, GA; son W. Scott (Susan) Cody of Owatonna, MN; grandchildren Paula and Karla Baumgartner, Beth, Matt and Drew Cody. She was preceded in death by husband Merland, parents; sisters Reva Enockson and Thelma Klein, and brothers Russell and Keith Cooper.
Floy Adele Cody, the daughter of William and Bessie (Joliffe) Cooper, was born August 5th, 1918 at McKnight’s Point, Iowa. She received her education at Ottosen and was employed at Bowen’s dime store. She was united in marriage to Merland Glen Cody on June 27, 1940. The couple then moved to Des Moines where Merland managed a Ben Franklin store until 1944 when he and Floy along with Harold DeGroote purchased the Corner Store at LuVerne. The couple moved to Humboldt in January of 1951, where they purchased Foodland, which became Cody’s Market and Old House of Values.
Floy was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was active in the Humboldt Women’s Club, Sewing Club and other local organizations for many years. Floy enjoyed collecting dishes and antiques, having dinner parties for friends and relatives and visiting her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and had a sharp memory to the last day.
