Floyd J. Lyon, 82, of Humboldt, passed away February 2, 2016 at the Humboldt Care Center North. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Father James Tigges, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Gilmore City. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday a t the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Floyd Joseph Lyon, the son of George and Beatrice (Claman) Lyon, was born February 16, 1933 on a farm in Pocahontas County near Gilmore City. He attended country schools and graduated from Gilmore City High School. Following his education, Floyd began farming with his father. He was united in marriage to Margaret Agnes Humpal on October 25, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Dodge.
In 1982, Floyd began operating the Gilmore City Locker. In 1990, he went to work of UBC Lumber Yard in Humboldt until his retirement.
Floyd enjoyed gardening, fishing, and butchering. He had an extensive framed puzzle collection. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Gilmore City. He served as a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was involved with ABATE.
Floyd is survived by his sons, Ted Lyon of Woodbury, MN; daughters, Teresa Kenning of Aptos, CA, Cherie Schlenker of Panora, Cynthia Loftus of Renwick, and Tina Lyon of Osceola; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and his brother, Ronald Lyon of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Frank Lyon; and his brothers, Walter, Charles, and Sewell.
