Frank J. Marchant, 83, of Gilmore City, passed away June 16, 2009 at his home near Gilmore City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Marchant is survived by his wife, Donna of Gilmore City; daughters, Connie (Don) Cross of Green Bay, WI, Sheryl (Bob) Courtney of Boonsboro, MD, and Angie (Thomas) Watts of Manhattan, KS; sons, Frank E. (and companion Joni) Marchant of Gilmore City, and Gary (Tammie) Marchant of Gilmore City; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sisters, LaVonne Lanus of Humboldt, Jeanne (Raymond) Bond of Des Moines, and Betty Ledet of Emmetsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert and Bob Marchant.
Frank J. Marchant, the son of Frank Edward and Edna (Bradbury) Marchant, was born November 19, 1925 on a farm near Bradgate. In 1936, he moved with his family to a farm north of Gilmore City and graduated from Bradgate High School in 1943. Frank Began farming at the age of 15 following the death of his father. He was united in marriage to Donna Jean Marcellus on September 2, 1951 at the United Methodist Church at Humboldt. The couple made their home on the farm north of Gilmore City all of their married lives. Their sons joined the family operations and Frank remained active in the business until his death.
Frank was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church at Bradgate then Gilmore City. He was a past member of the Gilmore City/Bradgate School Board, the Bradgate COOP Board, and the Pocahontas and Humboldt County Cattleman’s Associations. He was currently serving as an Avery Township Trustee. He loved his farming operations, and enjoyed card playing, bowling, and time spent with his family.
