Gary J. Anderson, 69, of Rutland, passed away August 28, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery with full military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and Adams American Legion Post 119.
Gary Jay Anderson, the son of Orville and Ethel (Emanuelson) Anderson, was born June 15, 1943 at Spencer, Iowa. He was raised at Sioux Rapids, Iowa where he received his education and graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in 1962. From 1964 – 1969, Gary served in the National Guard Reserves. He made his home in Ames where he worked for Hy-Vee and in an auto body shop. On August 23, 1964 he married Martha Sinclair. The couple made their home in various communities settling in Rutland in 1972. For many years Gary owned and operated the Rutland Locker. He was also employed by DeKalb Seed Corn and Frit Industries and enjoyed helping area farmers with their fieldwork and working in the construction business with Hermie Hauck.
Gary was an outdoorsman and enjoyed riding horses, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He liked time spent with friends and, above all, he loved the time spent with his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Julie of Rutland; his children, Michelle (Red) George of Ripon, CA, Stacy (Doug) Bunkofske of Dakota City, Sheri (Terry) Ahlrich of LeMars, Mitchell (Mary) Anderson of Ruthven, and Michael (Angela) Anderson of Dakota City; Step children, Annette Stone of Algona, Tony (Lanette) Stone of Dakota City, Patty Sorenson of LuVerne, Michelle Stone of Algona, and Kathy Frideres of Algona; grandchildren, Kayla (Adam) Rasmussen, Kelsey, Katie, and Kyle Olson, Chelsia Bunkofske, Tyler, Anna, Kara Ahlrich, Heather and Mike Leahey, Andy and Megan Rupp, Alecia, Darci, and Myka Anderson; step grandchildren, Josh and Sara Stone, Abby (Jesse Faber) Stone, Andy, and Tony Stone, Ben Stone, Adam Finley, and Michael Frideres; great grandchildren, Ryley Paulton, Emmett Rupp, and Ciaran Leahey; step great grandchildren, Riley, Ethan, and Hailey Stone, Hope Barnes, Keaton Seltz, Faith Stone, and Zane Faber. He is also survived by his brother, Dick (Cynthia) Anderson of Sioux Rapids; and sisters, Barb (Byron) Loving of Storm Lake, Janet (John) Mills of Sioux Rapids, and Helen (Bob) Holmes of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edith Wells, Dorothy Schaut, and Betty Stennerson; and brothers, Doyle and George Anderson.
