Gary L. Julius

August 5, 1952 — December 20, 2020

Gary Lee Julius, 68, of Humboldt, died December 20th, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota with his wife at his side. He endured a short, but courageous, 10 month battle with amyloid.

Gary Lee Julius was born August 5, 1952 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Eugene and Phyllis Julius. He enjoyed growing up on the family farm with his brother, Ron. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1970. He served in the United States Army for two years, most of which he served in Germany. He met his wife, Luanne Kinney, in July 1974 in Spirit Lake. They were married November 29, 1975 in Pomeroy and celebrated 45 years of marriage in November. They made their home in Humboldt, where he worked side by side with his Dad and Ron on the family farm for many, many years.

He is survived by his wife, Luanne, 4 children; Alecia (Chad) Raymer, Laurie (Cody) Collins, Erin (Brandon) Eggers and Scott (Kaitlyn) Julius, his grandchildren; Lauren, Evan and Scarlet Raymer, Carly, Cora and Baby Collins, Reagan and Reid Eggers and Hudson and Henley Julius. He is also survived by his brother, Ron (Rita), sister and brother in laws: Marge (Jerry) Ellingson, Jack (Jane) Kinney, Jeanne Kinney, Bob (Kathy) Kinney, Carol (Dave) Mann, Scott Kinney, many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Ivo and Josephine Kinney and sister-in-law, Deb Kinney.

Gary’s grandkids were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to watch a little league baseball game, Christmas concert, birthday party or dance recital. Gary and Lu bought a lake home in Okoboji in 2009 and he enjoyed so much time at the lakes with his family.
He loved to load up his boat with a bunch of grandkids and cruise around the lake. He was a proud farmer and worked tirelessly alongside Ron and Scott. He was a very loyal and lifelong Cyclone fan. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all and will be missed dearly.
