Gary Lee “Lanky” Lankford, the son of George and Delores (Williams) Lankford, was born July 10, 1954, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. At an early age following the death of his father, he was raised by his mother and step-father Merrill Koob, growing up in Waterloo and Gilmore City and graduating from Gilmore City-Bradgate High School with the “Class of 1972”. On December 24, 1991, Gary was united in marriage to Catherine L. Kennard in Livermore, Iowa. They made their home in Livermore before moving to Humboldt in 2018. Gary worked for Hawkeye Leisure Trailers in Humboldt for over 30 years, retiring in 2016 due to his health. He loved hunting, fishing, working on his brother’s ranch and was a huge Miami Dolphins fan.
Gary passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital at the age of 67 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Merrill Koob; sister, Kim Dahlsten and infant twin sisters, Marilyn and Marlene Koob.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Lankford of Humboldt; children: Nickole Lankford of Humboldt, Robert (Kim) Griesman of Burlington and Ruben (Halie) Griesman of Carroll; grandchildren: Isaac, Ava, Natalie, Josie and Lillian Griesman and Castiel and Lydia Cartee; siblings: Carla Lankford of Dakota City, Rick (Renee) Koob of Humboldt, Darla (Kevin) Stockman of Ogden, Randy (Beth) Koob of Hardy, Troy (Sue) Koob of Humboldt, Brenda (Kelly) Dahl of Kearney, NE and Lynn (Steve) Dahlsten of Boone as well as other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11th, at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt with Pastor Jon Disburg officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home.
