Gary E. Lowe, 73, of Humboldt, passed away July 10, 2017 at Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton officiating. Burial will be in Our Saviour’s Cemetery, Corinth Township with full military rites by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Gary Eugene Lowe, the son of Gale and Eleanor (Thompson) Lowe, was born July 29, 1943 at Humboldt, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from Boone Valley High School in Renwick. Shortly after graduating, Gary enlisted into the United States Air Force and was stationed at Big Springs, Texas where he served as an airplane mechanic. He married Janet Slieter and to this union three sons were born. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Humboldt and was employed as a lineman for REC. On December 17, 1976, Gary was united in marriage to Janell Lauritsen and the couple made their home in Humboldt. Following Gary’s retirement from REC, he enjoyed farming with Ron Thompson and driving for Jim Flick and Preston Peterson at Northland Auto. He enjoyed his many fishing trips to Canada and playing cards with friends. He especially loved woodworking and made various items and pieces of furniture for his family, friends and community, and loved spending time in his shop. He served as a Red Cross CPR and First Aid Instructor and on the Hospice Board. In years past, Gary served as a foster parent, a Big Brother, and a 4-H Leader. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church where he served as the Chairman of the Men’s Group and was especially proud of his participation in last falls Honor Flight.
Gary is survived by his wife, Janell of Humboldt; children, Kurt Lowe of Fort Dodge, Kevin Lowe of Fort Dodge, Kelly (Heather) Lowe of Fairmont, MN, Rick (Brenda) Lauritsen of Battle Creek, NE, and Stephanie (Tom) Clarken of Stuart; grandchildren, Owen Lowe, Tanner Lowe, Lucas Lowe, Brittany Lowe, Jackson Lowe, Tyler Lowe, Michael (Heather) Lauritsen, Nicki Lauritsen, Josh (Katrina) Lauritsen, Matt (Kelsey) Clarken, Molly (Michael Cornish) Childress; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Porter of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Jolene (Ken) Burns of Guthrie Center; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Peggy Lowe; and grandson, Cole Clarken.
